2 CPM men hacked to death in Burdwan, house of Cong supporter set on fire and voters threatened in Howrah

Shocking reports of postpoll violence poured in from different districts in West Bengal. Two CPM supporters including a polling agent were hacked to death in Burdwan district, house of a Congress supporter was set on fire in Nadia and goons threatened voters in Howrah.

Tension prevailed in Lodna village in Khandoghos­h in Burdwan district where two CPM supporters were hacked to death allegedly by Trinamool congress supporters. The incident occurred when CPM polling agent Sheikh Fazle Haque and father of another CPM polling agent Dhukhiram Dole were returning home after the polling on Thursday evening.

Few Trinamool Congress supporters allegedly accosted them and started hurling bombs. Then they hacked them. They were sent to Burdwan Medical College Hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.

CPM MP Mohammed Salim on Friday accused the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the murder of two party supporters. He said the chief minister was continuous­ly asking her party supporters of taking revenge inch by inch to the opposition supporters after the poll is over.

He said the killing of the two party supporters was the fall out of the threat given by the chief minister. He also alleged that though the villagers informed the police, the cops came to the spot after two hours, he said. But the Trinamool Congress leadership refuted the allegation of involvemen­t of any party supporter in the incident.

In another incident, the house of a CPM polling agent was set on fire in Haringhata in Nadia district on Thursday night after the poll was over in the district. To protest the incident, the villagers gheraoed the Haringhata police station on Friday morning. Later, the police made a lathi charge to disperse the villagers.

In another incident, a CPM local leader was allegedly assaulted by the Trinamool Congress supporters in Sashan area in North 24 parganas district. The injured was admitted to hospital.

In a counter attack, a group of CPM supporters raided a village in Bagnan area in Howrah district and threatened the Trinamool Congress supporters to cast their votes in favour of a CPM nominee.

Few CPM supporters allegedly tore off the party flags of Trinamool Congress in Diamond Harbour in South 24 parganas district on Friday morning.
