‘No skin particles in Pratyusha’s nails found’

- RAJIV SHARMA

The medical report of the nail clippings of film actress Pratyusha Banerjee has not shown the presence of any foreign particles in it, which points towards the fact that it was a case of suicide and not murder.

The actress had been found hanging in her house at Goregaon by her boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh who then took her to Kokilaben Hospital. However, she was declared dead before admission and the body was referred for a post mortem examination.

Medical sources explained that the final cause of death has been ‘death due to suicidal hanging’ and the medical reports have also found that she was two months pregnant. Further, the chemical analysis report has said that she was under the influence of alcohol at the time of her death and this could have contributed to her suicide. The level of alcohol was 135 milligrams which shows that she had consumed a high amount of alcohol at the time of her death, sources said.

Forensic sources explained that they had preserved the nail clipping of Pratyusha at the time of the post mortem examination along with her hair samples.”The purpose of taking the nail clippings is to see if there is presence of any skin particles that may have got scratched off if there was any struggle at the time of her death,” the official said.

This kind of situation mostly happens in the case of murder or assault when the victim tries to struggle and hits out with his or her hands. And in this process either the skin particles of the assailant or some hair particles can get stuck in the nails of the victim, sources said.

However, there is no evidence of any such particles in the nails of Pratyusha and this appears to be a clear case of suicidal death. The fact of death due to asphyxia in a case of suicidal hanging has also been confirmed by the histo pathological report that was given from JJ Hospital. Further, the hair samples of Pratyusha have been taken to get her DNA type so that this can be matched with any such evidence that comes up at a later stage.
