KANHAIYA TAKES A SWIPE AT MODI

-

Advises him to stop making false promises & start working

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students’ union leader Kanhaiya Kumar on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and demanded that the government stop "jumlas" (false promises) and start "working" as public patience was wearing out.

"The Modi government is coining only jumlas (idiomatic expressions) such as Make in India, which should actually be Fake in India; Stand Up India, Start Up India, Selfie with Daughter etc. It has become a government of selfies and 'jumlas'.

"The reality is these are only tall promises by which the government is fooling the public as nothing positive was coming off the ground," he said. Addressing a huge students' rally in Tilak Nagar area, Kumar, a budding politician, came down heavily on the ruling regime and sought complete end to caste-communal based politics inspired by the RSS. “My struggle is to save democracy and ensure social justice and empowerment,” said Kumar.

“We will continue our battle against Sanghvaad (RSS), Brahminism and capitalism until equality is brought to society. Our ideology is the one which is inspired by Lord Buddha, Jyotirao Phule, B R Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi and Karl Marx,” he added.

In an electrifying speech, Kumar accused Modi-led government of being fascist and having anti-Dalit approach. Taking a dig at Modi, Kumar said,“You changed the name of Gurgaon to Gurugram, to honour the Brahmin icon Guru Dronacharya. But let me assure you, we are not Ek Lavya, who cut his thumbs off for his Guru. But we will raise our voice against this blatant Brahminism you want to impose in the nation.” “Modi has been saying that his mother, a dishwasher, toiled hard to bring him up. There are crores of people who wash dish, because they cannot afford a maid. Today I ask Modiji, whom I really respect a lot, why does he not provide free education to children who come from the same community and class,” he said. In a bid to pay tribute to PhD student of Hyderabad University Rohit Vemula, who allegedly committed suicide, the budding leader said his prime aim is to get Rohit Vemula Act passed in Parliament.“The Rohit Vemula Act will bring complete end to caste-based discrimination in university campuses,” said Kumar, amidst thunderous applause of students, who hailed ‘Jai Bheem’ and ‘Laal Salaam’. Raising drought-hit Marathwada issue, Kumar took on Modi’s foreign tour, asking,“Modiji, you have been visiting the whole world. But I want to ask you a direct question: Have you ever been to Marathwada region?”“You have got your wax statue made. Modiji, you will melt if you are asked to stand in the 41 degree temperature of Marathwada,” he said. Kumar said that lakhs of people have been dying of poverty, drought, train accident, etc in India.“But Modiji, the day people get to know that they can stave off tragic deaths by killing the Sangh (RSS people), Brahminism, capitalism, etc. then there will be dearth of jail to send them behind bars and your police personnel will be deficient to slap people with sedition charges,” said Kumar who earned standing ovation amidst thunderous applause. Meanwhile, audience simultaneously roared, saying,“Sarkar humse darti hai, police ko aagey karti hai.” JNUSU vice president Shehla Rashid also lashed out at BJP leaders and Central government. Highlighting drought in Maharashtra, Rashid wondered,“Why Marathwada is reeling under drought? It is not a natural calamity.” Taking a dig at BJP MLA Pankaja Munde, whose Latur visit earned huge brickbats over her selfie episode, Rashid said, “People are reeling under acute water crisis and saffron leaders are busy clicking selfie.” It will be BJP’s desperate attempt to prove Marathwada drought as a natural calamity, in the same way they dubbed Chennai flood as a natural disaster,” she said, adding,“It is a disaster due to the disastrous developmental policies.” sroad proposal and said,“When farmers are committing suicide, the state government is busy making the coastal road, instead of helping people in the drought-hit regions, the government is pooling crores in the construction of coastal roads.” He visited and paid homage at Chaityabhoomi in Dadar, the place where the chief architect of India's Constitution B R Ambedkar was cremated. Kanhaiya is scheduled to visit Pune on Sunday and meet students of the Film and Television Institute of India who had gone on a 139-day strike last year.
