Pratyusha’s death: Parents allege bias in police probe

- STAFF REPORTER

On the eve of the next hearing in Pratyusha Banerjee death case, her parents, Shankar and Soma Bannerjee, alleged that Mumbai police is going easy on the case.

“Since beginning the Mumbai police are not cooperating with us. They (police) seem very flexible in dealing with the accused Rahul Raj Singh, so that he can be saved,” said Pratyusha’s father Shankar Banerjee.

“The house was sealed after the panchnama. We were not allowed to visit the house where my daughter died in mysterious circumstances. We kept asking for that but were not allowed. All her belongings including number of trophies and medals, family and her individual photographs, etc., were there in the house. We don’t have even a single memorabilia of my daughter,” said a tearful Shankar Bannerjee.

“We were assured by the city police that the house (crime scene) will not be opened in my absence. But recently when we were in our hometown in Jamshedpur, we got to know that the house was opened,” he alleged.

On April 1, Pratyusha was found hanging inside her house, where she was staying with her live-in partner Rahul Raj Singh who at present is at large after his bail in a different cheating case got cancelled by a local court in Mumbai. Pratyusha’s parents suspect that police has played a vital role in his absconding. “He (Rahul) is a very low level criminal and is basically a struggler who is blocking the career of various budding artistes,” alleged Shankar.

“Since beginning I have been telling that Pratyusha has been murdered. She cannot commit suicide,” said Shankar.

Pratyusha’s father said he would request special public prosecutor Ujjwal to fight the case.
