- DIWAKAR SHARMA

In a major crackdown against drug addicts in the city, Mumbai police has launched a combing operation to nab the hopheads who have terrorized residents of Sakinaka by their audacious ill activities like consuming drugs and alcohol in public space then after creating chaos.

The incidents like bloody infighting among drug addicts have become very common in Sakinaka and that’s why the Mumbai police resorted to this bold step of combing operation, which is generally taken to nab hardcore criminals and terrorists. Till date in 2016, the Sakinaka police registered 165 cases under provisions of NDPS Act and alarmingly total 197 people were arrested. In most of the cases of assault registered at Sakinaka police, the accused arrested was found either in an inebriated state or was high on drug.

The local residents have vigorously joined the major step taken by Sakinaka police. The senior inspector of Sakinaka police station Avinash Dharmadhikari told FPJ that women too have willingly participated in the anti-drug addicts drive.

In a bid to repress the menace of drug addicts, the police are also searching the remote areas where they generally accumulate.

A local group also performed a street play to make people aware of the use of toxic substance like drugs and alcohol, said the officer.

It is really tough for city police to deal with the drug addicts as they take extreme steps like injuring themselves. Either they cut themselves using blades or injure their own head banging in the wall. So the Sakinaka police are taking all possible steps to nab them so that the local residents can be comfortable in the area.
