CM’s escort vehicle hits Innova, 3 injured

- STAFF REPORTER

Five people got injured on Thursday late night at Walkeshwar when an Innova car got hit by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ escort vehicle which was coming back from Nagpada after fuelling up.

There were three girls including driver in the Innova car and two people inside the escort vehicle Scorpio when the mid-night accident took place. The 21-yearold Faiza Momeen, along with two other girls Insha Momeen (16) and Juhi Shah (22), was coming back from Girgaum Chowpatty and was heading to Walkeshwar. But the Scorpio, which was being driven by 50-yearold Chandrakant Tavre, hit their car.

“There is no connection of chief minister and his convoy in this accident. But it (Scorpio) is one of the escort vehicles of the CM. After escorting, the vehicle had gone to Nagpada for fuelling up, after which it was coming to Walkeshwar where the accident took place. The driver and his colleague Vittal Sawant sitting in the Scorpio got injured. They have been sent to Bombay hospital. The driver Tavre was released after first aid was conducted but his colleague Sawant is still in the same hospital for detailed medical check up. There is no serious injury but he has been kept for further medical checkup like MRI, etc,” said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity.

“A girl was driving the Innova car, in which two more females were sitting. All the three girls got injured. The trio have been admitted to St. Elizabeth hospital,” said the police officer.

“The prima facie does not pin point if the girl behind Innova wheel was in inebriated state during the accident but no medical report has come so far,” said the officer.

None of the five people received any serious fracture, confirmed the police officer. “A case has been registered because the vehicles got damaged in the accident,” he said.
