Refuse pay hike

- — Marcus Dabre

This refers to the legislators' pay hike (July 29, FPJ ). When those young men and women working in government departments, including municipal offices, on contract basis for just Rs. 5000- 6000 per month (which they often do not receive for days, months), it is ridiculous that elected representatives are seeking pay hike. Most of them have declared their assets at the time of elections beyond people’s imagination. Hundreds, retired as legislators, are receiving crores of rupees as pension and enjoying life. We also know how they work in assemblies and Parliament. Voters will oppose their demand for pay hike; in fact whatever financial help they get from the government may be reduced to 25% as the state is financially weak and suffering. Our CM himself must lead in this matter by refusing increase in pay hike.
