Sangli BJP leader trying to grab Walchand College land: AAP

- STAFF REPORTER Mumbai

The Aam Admi Party has alleged that the BJP is the new face of NCP and a top leader from Sangli has been trying to grab around 110 acres of land by trying to take control of an engineering college that is located in this district.

Narrating the sequence of events, Preeti SharmaMenon of the AAP said that the issue revolves around the MTE Society which runs an engineering college in the premises. The college was later taken over by the State government and the Walchand Hirachand Memorial Trust since the earlier management had incurred a lot of debts, said Sharma.

However, the current issue is regarding the hostile takeover of the Walchand College by Prithviraj Deshmukh, who is the Sangli BJP chief in May 2016. “The goons forcibly removed the college director and installed their own person in his place,” she claimed. It was clear that the reason for this takeover was the 110 acres of land where this college is located and though several people tried to raise this issue with the State government, there was no response, she said.

Later, when the earlier director was brought back to the college, Deshmukh is now trying to regain control of this place by getting an administrator appointed, Sharma said. “An inquiry committee has said that there is no need to appoint an administrator since the college is already controlled by the State government through the administrative council,” she explained. Despite this, the matter has now been referred to the law and judiciary department of the administration to get another opinion on the matter, Sharma said.

“P rithviraj Deshmukh, who is the Sangli BJP chief, is now trying to regain control of this place by getting an administrator appointed.”
