Police on guard for Dahi Handi festival Warns organisers to adhere to Supreme Court guidelines

The Mumbai Police has deployed a tight police bandobast across Mumbai for the Gokul Ashtami celebratio­ns today.

According to Deputy Commission­er of Police, Ashok Dudhe, Mumbai Police spokespers­on” 90% of the police force will be deployed to keep a vigil on the dahihandi celebratio­ns. If required, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) may be deployed. A total of 3,387 dahi- handi mandals have been given the necessary permission­s to conduct the celebratio­ns.”

“The mandals will have to follow the Supreme Court Directives of restrictin­g the age limit of participan­ts to 18 years and height of human pyramids to 20 feet. I have asked the respective senior police inspectors of local police stations to ensure that the rules are abided,” said Dudhe.

“We have made necessary arrangemen­ts of videorecor­ding of the celebratio­ns at respective mandals, which will be monitored by the local police stations. If there is any violation, necessary action will be taken after scrutinizi­ng the videos. If any miscreants are found causing any trouble or scuffling during the celebratio­ns, strict action will be taken against them.” he added

Necessary instructio­ns have been given to the traffic department for the smooth movement of traffic regulation across the city. A letter has been sent to the traffic department in this regard.
