- STAFF REPORTER

A 66-year-old woman became the latest in the list of cadaver donations in the city, taking the total number of such cadaver donations to 42 in this year so far.

Sources said that the cadaver donation took place at Fortis Hirandandani Hospital at Vashi last night and the liver went to a recipient at Global Hospital, while one kidney went to Jaslok Hospital and one was retained by the donor hospital.

With this, the total number of kidney donations has risen to 42 so far while liver donations have reached the 40 mark this year. A total of 21 heart transplants have been done so far, sources said.

A senior doctor said that the number of cadaver donations that have taken place this year is quite encouraging and this will act as a good source of motivation to the society.

“At the same time, there is still a lot of potential in converting brain dead cases from public hospitals like Sion Hospital, KEM Hospital and JJ Hospital and motivating the family members to donate the organs,” he revealed.
