Give Respect- Gain Respect

- – By Rajyogi Brahmakumar Nikunj ji

When you are content to be simply yourself and don’t compare or compete, everybody will respect you, says chinese philosopher Lao Tzu.There is no doubt in it that we all seek respect whenever we come in contact with any other being. This is because if one gets respect, one feels that one has a place in this world. Respect is something that makes us feel happy from inside, and that is why we all prefer to be in company of those people who respect us and are prepared even to make some sacrifices for us. In contrast, when one is humiliated, ridiculed, reviled, he/she feels very sad, small, ruffled and mauled. Such a person then loses his peace and zest and thinks that no other reward of life can adequately compensate him for the loss of respect. The feeling of hurt caused by dis-respect, particularly if it is done in public-view, gives birth to illfeeling, resentment, hatred, disunity, enmity and revenge. This in turn gives rise to many problems and makes solution to these problems difficult.

Showing dis-respect to someone is a very cheap form of behaviour that proves very costly to the one who indulges into it. The wounds of dis-respect take very long to heal. If on the other hand, people show respect towards each other, then they are insuring for happy relationships and are making wise investment for happiness that comes through cordiality. Remember! one who gives respect to others shows his own civility, royal manners, belief in dignity of the human individual and his refined culture.

Conversely, one who shows disrespect to others and behaves rudely, gives proof of weakness of his own character and of lack of self control and balance. So, if we want to have a better world for all, it is then necessary to give respect to each other.
