The myriad hues of Janmashtami in Bollywood
The Government might have made the whole fuss around Janmashtami rather subdued with their stricter norms, but that doesn’t stop us from reliving the iconic Janmashtami that Bollywood has been giving us all these years. After all, the kind of grit, determination and heroism required for Dahi Handi, festival are all things that make Bollywood.
Mach Gaya Shor… the song from KHUDDAR is undoubtedly the most favoured song of the season. With none other at Amitabh Bachchan eyeing the earthen pots sets the mood for the rollicking festival beautifully. With Parveen Babi to give him company, this song is a chartbuster every time one speaks of songs for the season.
Govinda Aala Re… the first time we heard these words was for Shammi Kapoor starrer BLUFFMASTER, the song and its lyrics becoming synonymous to Janmashtami. The words echo even today in films like RANGREZZ starting Jacky Bhagnani, though the sentiments come from decades ago.
Bada Natkhat Hai Yeh… the sweetest, most soulful rendition from AMAR PREM, is a song that even today brings a smile and a stray tear to everyone who is listening to the lyrics. The song depicting the relationship between a mother and son has been one of the most beautiful songs for the season. Picturised on Sharmila Tagore, the song leaves a bitter-sweet taste for all the Amar Premfans.
Aala Re Ala Govinda… KALA BAZAR, having Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff setting the mood for Janmashtami is something that is a must see for all Bollywood lovers. The song is atypical of our films with loads of color, water and of course some awkward dance steps done with
Radhe Krishna Ki… song from Sooraj Barjatya’s VIVAAH, was amongst those that were not the most popular songs of the superhit film but were completely synonymous with the Janmashtami. In Shreya Ghoshal’s lilting voice the song stands to be one of the more popular ones for the season.
Go Go Go Govinda… It is hands down the most popular song for Janmashtami, despite the fact that the film release good four years ago. Picturised on Sonakshi Sinha and Prabhu Deva, this is the most foot-tapping song with none other than Sonakshi Sinha breaking the pot. Given her father did it too in the song Shor mach gaya shor…in BADLA, our lady set out to meet the expectations beautifully.
