Relief for children suffering from blood-related ailments
Two speciality clinics have been started at Cooper Hospital in Juhu
Children suffering from various blood related and pulmonary ailments will get a major relief from the two speciality clinics that have been started at Cooper Hospital in Juhu.
According to Dr Charusheela Korday, head of paediatrics department, they have started a haematology clinic in the hospital which will help children to get treatment for various kinds of blood related illnesses. “There are conditions like thalassemia, low haemoglobin and sickle cell anaemia that affect children and they need to get proper treatment for this,” she said. This clinic, which is held every Friday morning, is extremely useful in giving them early diagnosis and treatment, she explained.
The other facility that has been started is the pulmonology clinic that is helpful in detection and treatment of children suffering from conditions like asthma and pneumonia. “The benefit of having these speciality clinics is that the children can get special attention from the doctors and various tests can be carried out to understand their medical condition,” she said.
There are many children who suffer from asthma and hence it is necessary that they must get the right treatment and also counselling, Dr Korday said. “The pulmonology clinic is held every Wednesday and we also provide facilities like nebulisation for the children suffering from asthma,” she said. The patients are also given information on what diet to follow and also preventive steps that they can take to reduce their medical problem.
The doctor revealed that they have already got a good response from the patients and some of them even come from far off locations to take treatment. “On an average, we get around 15-18 patients per day during these clinics and this likely to increase in the coming days,” Dr Korday said.
The acting dean of Cooper Hospital, Dr Brinda Venkatraman, said that these two speciality clinics have received a good response from people and they plan to introduce more such facilities in the comings days. “For older people, we have also started a geriatric clinic which will provide specific kind of treatment for their problems,” she revealed.
