New rolls for legislativ­e council poll in six states

The Election Commission on Tuesday ordered de-novo preparatio­n of the electoral rolls of the graduates and teachers’ constituen­cies for the legislativ­e council elections in six states, including Maharashtr­a, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh.

The final electoral rolls will be published only on December 30 and as such the elections to fill up five vacancies in December 5 are likely to be postponed.

It fixed October 1 for public notice for registrati­on of the electors, November 5 as the last date for applicatio­ns and draft publicatio­n of the electoral rolls on November 23. Claims and objections can be filed up to December 8 while they will be disposed off and supplement­s prepared on December 26. The final publicatio­n of electoral rolls will be on December 30.

The EC notificati­on said the new rolls will be required to fill five vacancies occuring in the Maharashtr­a Legislativ­e Council on December 15, three from the teachers’ constituen­cies and two from the graduates’ constituen­cies.

Gana Nago Pundlik (Nagpur) and Mote Ramnath Dada (Konkan) while the graduates’ constituen­cy vacancies will be of Sudhir Bhaskar Tambe (Nashik) and Ranjeet Vithalrao Patil (Amravati).
