New rolls for legislative council poll in six states
The Election Commission on Tuesday ordered de-novo preparation of the electoral rolls of the graduates and teachers’ constituencies for the legislative council elections in six states, including Maharashtra, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh.
The final electoral rolls will be published only on December 30 and as such the elections to fill up five vacancies in December 5 are likely to be postponed.
It fixed October 1 for public notice for registration of the electors, November 5 as the last date for applications and draft publication of the electoral rolls on November 23. Claims and objections can be filed up to December 8 while they will be disposed off and supplements prepared on December 26. The final publication of electoral rolls will be on December 30.
The EC notification said the new rolls will be required to fill five vacancies occuring in the Maharashtra Legislative Council on December 15, three from the teachers’ constituencies and two from the graduates’ constituencies.
