Katju to Biharis: Go complain to the UN

- CHHAYA MISHRA

Former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju on Wednesday advised Biharis to approach the United Nations against his comments on Facebook wherein he had offered a “package deal” to Pakistan to take Bihar along with Kashmir.

He recalled an episode of Mahabharata and said that when Draupadi was getting disrobed (cheer haran), she had prayed for protection to Lord Krishna, thus equating the UN with the Hindu god.

Reacting to the sharp criticism by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and the registration of an FIR against him at the Shastrinagar police station, the former judge put up another post saying that Pakistan got all the ideas of jungle raj from Bihar.

Pakistan had plainly refused to take Bihar along with Kashmir, he claimed, ostensibly because the idea of getting Bihar with Kashmir had horrified the neighbouring country.

Responding to the comments of Nitish Kumar that Katju was not “mai-baap” (godfather) of Bihar, the former judge said, "I am not mai-baap of Bihar, but Shakuni Mama."

Justice Katju went further on Wednesday saying that some leaders of Bihar had demanded that he should be prosecuted on charges of sedition. "Better I should be prosecuted under the Lunacy Act," he said.

Justice Katju asked people to develop a sense of humour, adding that he had in the past made fun of Bengalis, Brahmins and Tamilians too.

He tried to create another controversy by claiming that ever since Emperor Ashoka of Magadh gave a thrashing to the Oriyas in the Kalinga war, they had harboured enmity against Biharis.
