POTHOLE CLAIMS YOUTH’S LIFE
It took a death for the civic body to fill the pothole. The victim’s father Kamaal Khan met Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta on Thursday evening seeking answers for who is responsible for his son Rizwan’s death.
However, the civic authority has assured him that that all the potholes in the city will be filled and the action will be taken against the contractors for negligence of their work. The deadly potholes on city roads claimed another life on Monday night, when a biker, Rizwan Khan (21) lost control of his bike and crashed into one pothole on Sir JJ Marg at Byculla.
The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) happened to ignore thousands of potholes in the city but interestingly on early Tuesday morning the civic officials filled up the pothole at the accident spot. Rizwan was returning home buying an ice cream with his colleague Murtaza Sayyad when a taxi tried to overtake them. The youth lost his control resulting into this mishap, explained his father Kamaal Khan.
Khan has also filed a police complaint on Wednesday for an FIR to be lodged against the civic authorities for their negligence. “If roads in the city were proper, my son would have been alive today,” said the bereaved father.
The family of the deceased stays in Nagpada. They received a call from Murtaza informing them about the incident. The deceased and his friend were rushed by JJ Hospital by local residents. Deceased Rizwan had received major head injuries since he was driving without a helmet and was declared dead early Tuesday morning.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had directed the MCGM, PWD and other agencies early this week to repair all potholes in the city in the next 15 days.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Congress President Sanjay Nirupam, along with the party workers, protested outside JJ Marg police station on Thursday demanding an FIR to be lodged against the civic officials, standing committee chairman, civic engineers and road contractors and a strict action should be taken against them for the negligence of work, which the police refused to do.
Nirupam said, “We had send many photographs of potholes and requested the MCGM to fill this potholes but our complaints have been ignored every time. Mumbaikars are made to suffer every year due to potholes leading to accidents.”
Civic authorities promptly filled up the pothole that led to the tragic death of Rizwan Khan
