Man died in cop assault: Kin
One 42-year-old man, who had reportedly been boozing on the roadside in Samta Nagar area on Wednesday, succumbed to the injuries he sustained when beat marshal allegedly assaulted him through stick.
The deceased has been identified as Uttam who has left his three children behind. He was running a fish business in the same area and was staying in Damu Nagar.
Uttam was immediately taken to Shatabdi hospital where he was declared brought dead. His body was later taken to Borivali hospital for postmortem.
His family alleged that police is trying to hush up the matter by destroying the footage of CCTV installed where Uttam succumbed to the injury. “The police are trying to get the autopsy report in their favour but we will request the authority concern for second post-mortem of the body,” said Bharat, one of the relatives of deceased.
However, the Samta Nagar police trashed the charges levelled against them. “Allegations of police beating are
false. Deceased was suffering from tuberculosis. He was sitting on street and drinking. Beat marshal tried to disperse drinkers and they all ran. He fell down and got fits which
caused his death,” said Senior Inspector of Samta Nagar police station Dilip Yadav.
There was minor injuries on his forehead and near the eye.
