Cong decries lid on debit card scandal

The Congress on Friday accused the Modi government of an attempt to put a lid on the scam of the massive breach of the debit cards’ security and demanded full disclosure of its extension and what compensati­on was being given to the victim card holders.

Over three million debit cards issued by various public and private banks exposed to a potential risk of data breach is not a small matter and the government cannot gloat over it, Congress spokesman Ajoy Kumar asserted at an AICC press briefing here.

"There are very few occurrence­s of this magnitude in the world. While these lists of the secret pins of the debit cards were being stolen, the nation''s ''chowkidar'' (watchman) Modi was sleeping," he said, taunting the government it fits in the government''s habit of claiming to be the first in doing everything. "Well, it is the first government to let lists of cardholder­s gets stolen," he said.

of the data theft, Kumar said the central government must compensate cardholder­s who have suffered loss due to the security breach. "The common man, whose hard-earned money has been taken out of their accounts, should get back their money. The government must ensure that the banks compensate all card holders for their losses," he said.
