‘Pujari men’ target bar in Vile Parle

Two unidentifi­ed men who claimed to be members of the Ravi Pujari gang allegedly tried to threaten and extort money at Gazali bar in Vile Parle.

According to the police, “The incident took place at 10:35 pm at the pantry counter near the entrance of the bar.”

According to R Maharao, Senior Police Inspector, Vile Parle police station, “Two unidentifi­ed men who had covered their faces with a handkerchi­ef and had worn black caps entered the bar. They approached the victim, a waiter, and told him ‘Tere andar ke baap (owner of the bar) ko dena aur call nahi kiya to upar bhej denge’. Meanwhile, one of the unidentifi­ed men had aimed a pistol in the direction of the victim. Later, the duo sped away on a motorbike along with the other accomplice­s who were waiting outside near the entrance of the bar.”

According to the victim’s statement to the police,” The accused claimed that they belonged to the Ravi Pujari gang. The accused had demanded a sum of rupees two crore from the owner of Gazali bar.”

“No firing took place inside the bar,” said the police. However, two live cartridges were found there. According to the police, “The CCTV footage from the cameras installed at the bar is not clear. The matter is being further investigat­ed.”

Manohar Datta Chougule, the owner of the bar is the complainan­t in this case. “A First Informatio­n Report(FIR) has been registered against the two unidentifi­ed men for extortion under Section 383, Section 384 and Section 386, Section 120(A)(criminal conspiracy) and Section 34(common intention) of the Indian Penal Code at the Vile Parle police station on Saturday.” said Maharao.
