Unemployed for 3 yrs, man ends life

- RAJIV SHARMA/

A 40-year-old man who had been unemployed for last three years ended his life in the common gallery of his house at Vikhroli in the early hours on Sunday morning.

Interestingly, his body was hanging in the common gallery for the entire night till it was noticed by a neighbour in the morning and brought to the notice of the family members.

Police sources said that Prashant Hadkar had earlier been doing odd jobs but had been unemployed for the last three years. This had upset him a lot and he used to often get irritable around the house, the police said.

On Saturday night, there was a little delay in the family going to sleep and Pra-shant had gotten angry since he had to wake up early in the morning to fill water. “He left the house in an angry mood and even locked the door from outside while leaving,” said an officer from Vikhroli police station.

The family thought that he was angry for a while and that he will come back home after some time, and went to sleep. Around 5.30 am in the morning, a neighbour called up Prashant’s brother and told him that a body was hanging from the ceiling rod in the gallery outside their house, sources said.

The neighbour opened the door and when the family came out, they were shocked to see Prashant’s body hanging from the ceiling and immediately brought it down and took him to a nearby hospital. However, he was declared dead before admission and the cause of death was confirmed as hanging, the police said.

An officer from Vikhroli police station confirmed the incident and said that they are carrying out investigations in this matter. Prima facie, there is no evidence of any foul play and they have taken down statements of the family and neighbours, he added. “It is possible that he was frustrated because he was unemployed for some time and hence decided to end his life,” the officer said.
