BSSC chief arrested in paper leak scam

The Bihar Staff Selection Commission chairman Sudhir Kumar was on Friday arrested by a Special Investigat­ion Team (SIT) in connection with the paper leak scam in clerical-grade recruitmen­t examinatio­n even as the IAS Officers’ Associatio­n demanded a CBI inquiry to ensure an independen­t and fair probe.

"SIT has arrested BSSC chairman Sudhir Kumar and four others, including his close kins, in connection with the paper leak matter," Patna Zonal Inspector General of Police (IGP) N H Khan said. "The SIT has arrested Kumar on the basis of concrete evidence of his role in the entire matter of paper leak," Khan said.

Kumar has been arrested from Jharkhand's Hazaribagh district, a senior police source said, adding of the four others arrested along with Kumar, two are his nephews.

The IAS Officers' Associatio­n expressed deep anger and anguish over Kumar's arrest and demanded a CBI inquiry to ensure an independen­t and fair probe into the alleged scam. It also said that the Associatio­n would take up the matter with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Along with Sudhir, his brother Professor Awadesh Kumar, a teacher in Patna Women’s College, wife of brother, nephew and daughter-inlaw too have been arrested. Nephew and daughter in-law were examinees in the commission conducted recruitmen­t examinatio­ns and Prof Awadesh was an examiner.

Sudhir’s arrest followed the arrest of owner of a printing press at Ahmedabad on Thursday. Question papers of commission examinatio­ns were printed at Ahmedabad. Owner who was brought to Patna is reported to have told SIT questions were leaked out at the behest of the chairman.Both chairman and owner of the press were confronted with each other by SIT here.
