THE 'BOMBAY SCHOOL' PAINTERS AND THE PHOTOGRAPHIC PENTIMENTI By Shukla Sawant. The lecture will throw light on the working methods of academic painters working in western India in the early twentieth century. It will draw upon autobiographies, early art histories and criticism that appeared in Marathi periodicals of the time, to examine the interface between painting, photography and “life-study” as a studio practice. Barsat Rang: Compositions on Holi By Ashwini Bhide Deshpande. An NCPA Presentation Holi, the festival of colour, captures a spirit of exhilaration in the hearts of people during the month of Fagun. It is a season of festivity and celebration, with lilting music and dance, spraying of colour and unleashing of energy. This specially designed concert will evoke the joyous spirit of Holi through a repertoire rich in songs, melodies, rhythms and poetry. The amorous subject matter is inspired by the pranks of Lord Krishna, songs of couples in love, and the eternal love of Radha and Krishna. Ashwini Bhide was groomed by veterans like Narayanrao Datar, her mother Manik Bhide and Ratnakar Pai. Her style is marked by effortless exposition of melodies with pleasing tonal quality and aesthetic appeal. Bhide will create the splendour of this colourful festival with compositions drawn from classical and semi-classical music. Tickets:`360 & 315/(Members) `400 & 350/(Public). Let’s celebrate woman’s power on the occasion of International Women’s Day with Godrej India Culture Lab.The evening will begin with the world premiere of Field of Dreams. This touching documentary by Minnie Vaid follows a school principal and a soccer coach who are using football to change the lives of young girls in Jalna district, Maharashtra. This will be followed by the screening of Under the Open Sky, a documentary by Shilpa Phadke, Nikhil Titus and Faiz Ullah, about a girls' football initiative that begins to claim open public spaces to play in Mumbai’s Mumbra suburb. A panel discussion with all the filmmakers will also be scheduled.This event is free and open for all.
