First husband who killed ex-wife’s hubby in a fit of rage in Amboli police net
The Oshiwara police have arrested 38-year-old Omar Shaikh who killed Ali Asghar Abid Bhanpurwala in a flat next to Amboli police station on Saturday morning.
"We had kept Shaikh's mobile phone on surveillance that helped to track his movement. We had formed three teams who arrested Shaikh from a nearby area of the crime spot. We will produce him in court on Sunday," said Senior Inspector of Oshiwara police station Subhash Khanvilkar.
Bhanpurwala (38) was a renowned builder and was staying with his second wife Bismillah (30) in a rented accommodation in Irish Park building at Patel Estate road in Jogeshwari west, said Khanvilkar. Shaikh, a resident of Mazagaon, was furious with Bismillah as she had recently married Bhanpurwala on February 15, 2017, after divorcing him. "Bhanpurwala and Bismillah came in contact just two months ago before they got married," said police.
"In a bid to conceal his identity, Shaikh had donned burka. The security guard did not stop Shaikh as he pretended to be a Muslim woman," said Khanvilkar. Shaikh got off the autorickshaw he took to the house where Bhanpurwala, Bismillah, and children of Bismillah's sister were residing.
"Shaikh had changed his voice before knocking on the door and Bismillah thought it was her house maid at the gate. Once she opened the gate, Shaikh stabbed her with a kitchen knife he had concealed in a purse," said Khanvilkar.
"After hearing the commotion, Bhanpurwala jumped in to rescue Bismillah. But Shaikh, stabbed him repeatedly in the stomach," said Khanvilkar.
Leaving them injured in a pool of blood, Shaikh took off the burka he had donned and fled from the spot.
Bhanpurwala and Bismillah were taken to nearby Kokilaben hospital where the former was declared dead on arrival. His body was sent to Cooper hospital for autopsy. Bismillah, who sustained stab wounds on her right hand, is still recuperating in the same hospital.
The crime spot has been sealed and the investigators have recorded the statements of Bismillah and the children present at the time of the incident. The murder weapon has not been recovered, said police.
Though Bismillah and Shaikh had divorced each other, they continued to meet even after her marriage with Bhanpurwala, said Khanvilkar.
Sources have told the Free Press Journal that Shaikh and Bismillah had a heated argument before the incident. "Shaikh had sent a SMS to Bismillah in which he had threatened to kill her. We have seized her mobile phone for further investigation," said the source.
Shaikh has been booked under murder (302), attempt to murder (307) and house trespass after preparation (452) of Indian Penal Code.
