Kalyanmayee: The crusader of change
A paradigm shift by harnessing the synergies has brought about perceivable dimensional changes in the instituition which has taken noticeable initiative for the benefit of society, says Anjali Mohapatra, All India President, Kalyanmayee -AAIWWA
Kalyanmayee, came into existence on 23rd December, 1987 with an aim being to oversee the welfare of the women at the then 04 International Airports, viz Delhi, Bombay, Calcutta and Madras. Notwithstanding the same, after creation of Airports Authority of India (AAI) as the result of the merger of the erstwhile 02 Authorities i.e. IAAI & NAA (National Airports Authority) in 1998 it was thought to rejuvenate the organisation and accordingly embarked on this noble crusade.
The circumstances having changed drastically as AAI’s jurisdiction expanded manifold and encompassing 125 airports and whole of Indian airspace, which necessitated starting from the scratch and accordingly a new Constitution was evolved, including drafting Memorandum of Association afresh and Rechristening the organisation as Airports Authority of India Wives Welfare Association (AAIWWA)- Kalyanmayee.
The activities new juvenile organisation were restricted to cultural events, painting competition for kids of different age group, blood donation camps and rising for National cause meeting various calamities. Paper recycling unit at Delhi-AAI became First PSU recycling & Converting its Office Waste into Useful Paper Products by this pioneer initiative. This unit bagged Golden Peacock Award 2012.
24X7 Medical Centre at Pakyong in Sikkim bagged Greentech Foundation Award 2011.
Rural Water Supply scheme for the villages near Pakyong Airport.
Career Development Classes for School Dropouts and students of Airport High School, Mumbai. Smart Classes Airport High School Mumbai. Medical Camps at Raipur and much more. Sensitization workshop across the country to provide a safe working place for women employees and visitors at airports.
Self defence workshops for women employees at Delhi.
First ever all Women Car Rally in Delhi & also, an in-house Fashion show casing creation of world famous Satya Paul.
The CSR initiatives have been appaulded and aptly Awarded‘ The Times of India-Frame CSR Award 2012 and IPE CSR Corporate Governance Award’.
The icing on the cake being that in commemoration of its ‘Silver Jubilee Celebration’ we have organised a ‘Musical Extravaganza by Mikka the King of Melody’ in keeping with the trend / taste of the youth, the future of our nation and also,doing ‘Yeoman Service’ to the society at large by instituting the following:
Modern Montessori Pre-School and Teachers’ Training Center ( which provides free education for 25% children of EWS).
Kalyanmayee has come up with an innovative social venture “EDUCATION BEYOND SCHOOL” that started off w.e.f. October 2014. The social cause undertaken by Kalyanmayee arms to reach out to the students from the Economically Weaker Section with classes taking places at INA Colony.
The underprivileged students are getting immensely benefitted from the classes taking place from 3 to 5pm and are being provided with clothes, fruits, biscuits, snacks and proper mealsunder hygienic conditions, along with educational assistance.
Additional activities such as art and craft, personality development, Theater, Dance, Music and movie times are also included. Currently, 60 students ranging from two and a half years to twelve years of age are enrolled in the program.
Skill Development Classes at Jaipur and Jammu were also initiated in 2015 wherein cutting tailoring classes and Beautician courses are taught to women from EWS category to make them financially independent.
Adult Literacy programme was conducted by Varanasi Airport unit in 2015 and 2016 in near by village.
Kolkata Unit is also running classes for students from EWS and providing them educational assistance and also teaching them dance and art& craft etc.
Upcoming projects:
a. Skill Development courses related to Aviation for EWS by providing them training and helping them to get employment in Aviation industry.
b. Cervical Screening camp on International women day at Swami Vivekanand Basti near Bapu Dham shall be organized in association with AOIGN India.
c. Such screening camp shall further be replicated in other areas of Delhi for the women.
