Azmi demands SIT probe in tampering of EVMs in polls

- STAFF REPORTER

The Samajwadi Party (SP) legislator and Maharashtra president Abu Azmi demanded to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the tampering of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).

Azmi while addressing the press conference on Tuesday in Mumbai said, "I'm surprised people suffered alot after demonetisation, many lost their lives while standing in queue. Also in Maharashtra around four thousand farmers committed suicide due to drought still the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) stood as number one party in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh (UP) states."

Azmi further added, "In UP elections the BJP scored 325 seats wherein Muslims also voted in favour of BJP. Akhilesh Yadav Chief Minister of UP did lot of development projects for the state which we can see, still SP stood as the smallest party which is surprising.”

“If political parties seek vote by polarising caste and religion and do not get votes on the work done then in coming days no one will work and will seek votes on this agenda,” alleged Azmi.

Azmi demanded, “For upcoming polls by way of ballot paper vote counting should be done rather through EVM’s. There are countries like Germany, Ireland who already declared use of EVM’s as unconstitutional as the device could be tempered easily.”

He also mentioned, “Subramanian Swami in year 2013 himself filed a petition in Supreme Court (SC) and certain directions were been passed by the court but the government did not follow those directions.”

He further added, “All secular parties should come together for the benefit of the nations. As Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) is following divide and rule policy. It is only interested in dividing Muslims votes benefiting the BJP.”
