Revised DP to be delayed further

- STAFF REPORTER

Mumbaikars will have to wait for two more months to see the entire city's revamp. This comes after the proposal to clear the revised Development Plan (DP) 2014-34 was extended by another two months during the general body meeting of the civic body, on Friday.

The demand to extend the proposal by two months was made by Yashwant Jadhav, Leader of House. He sought extension minutes after the proposal was tabled before the meeting.

While seeking extension, Jadhav had cited the ground that the members in the house were newly elected and that they require some time to study the draft before clearing it. “Since the new house has newly elected members who have lesser knowledge about the entire plan, the proposal should be extended for two months,” said Jadhav. He added that they also need to know the development plan of the city which will be implemented till 2034.

Jadhav's demand was backed by Samajwadi Party’s Rais Shaikh and Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP’s) Manoj Kotak. However, Congress corporator Ravi Raja demanded an extension of three months which was rejected. Also, majority of the members seemed satisfied with two months’ extension.

The committee appointed by the state government had carried out hearings where 12,000 objections were raised and then submitted the report on March 7. The general body had to clear it by March 20.

Now, the administration will send a request to the state government for approval. This is the third extension that has been sought for clearing the DP. Earlier, two extensions were sought by the committee consisting of three corporators and three state-appointed experts.

Now, members have also demanded a hard copy to be provided to all 227 corporators who will study and discuss it in the next two months.
