V. Polo Team emerges champions

MUMBAI: V. Polo Team rode on the brilliant performanc­e of Dhurvpal Godra to emerge champions of the Amatuer Riders Polo Cup (10 Goals) Tournament. In an intense and absorbing contest, V. Polo Team did well to defeat Piramal Team by a 6-4 margin in the grand finale of the event organized by the Amateur Riders’ Club (ARC) as part of the 70th Annual Horse Show & Polo Tournament­s – 2017, and played the ARC polo grounds, Mahalaxmi Race Course, Mumbai. Leading the charge Godara scored four goals and HH Maharaja Padmanabh Singh of Rajasthan scored the other two goals to secure V.Polo’s team. For the Piramal Team Siddhanth Sharma scored 3 goals and Krishna Inkiya got 1. V. Polo started with a handicap of +8 goals, while Piramal went into the game with a +10 goals advantage. The V. Polo Team got off to a positive start as Godara scored twice in the first chukker to give his team a 20 lead. He scored one in the second chukker and one more in the fourth chukker while Maharaja Padmanabh Singh scored a goal in the third and fourth chukkers. The Piramal Team which drew a blank in the first chukker managed to score two goals through Sharma and Inkiya in the second to cut the deficit to 2-3. But after they failed to score in the third their rivals managed to score and restore their 2 goals cushion. In the fourth chukker Sharma struck two goals but it could help them to secure a win.
