In case of one sided love, a 24-year-old student of a local management college in Pune attacked his 22year-old classmate chopping her finger. The girl is a daughter of MLA of Wani constituency in Yavatmal district.

Ashwini Bodkurvar, a first year MBA student of Balaji Institute of Modern Management in Pune and daughter of Sanjiv Reddy Bodkurvar, was going to college at 8.30 am. Rajesh Bakshi, who is originally from Haryana, attacked her with sharp knife chopping off one of her fingers. She sustained several other injuries.

She was immediately taken to Multipoint Specialty Hospital, where she was being operated to fix her finger.

Ganesh Shinde, deputy commissioner of Police, Pune, said, “We have arrested Rajesh Bakshi and will book him under IPC 307. As per preliminary enquiry it is the case of one-sided love. Bakshi has been texting her, calling her against wishes of Ashwini. But college management didn’t file a police complaint.”

Col Balasubramanian, director of the college, confirmed that Bakshi has been harassing her. “She had complained us that Bakshi used to text her, call her and stalk her. Our committee of director, principal and students’ representative conducted preliminary enquiry and got to know that Bakshi used to harass the girl.”

He added, “We had counseling with Bakshi and also asked Ashwini what should be done with the guy. Bakshi agreed in written that he would not text, call or stalk her. Ashwini had forgiven him and both shook their hands on Sunday. We are shocked to see that Bakshi attacked Ashwini.”

After getting a call, her father MLA Sanjiv Reddy Bodkurvar reached Pune by 3 pm with his wife. Bodkurvar said, “This is shock to us that our daughter is victim of harassment by her onesided lover. She had earlier told us that one guy had been harassing her but did not want to go to the police as his career would have been ruined. Yesterday (Sunday) she told us that she had registered the complaint with college and now she was relaxed. And then this happened. Fortunately he did not attack her in stomach or chest otherwise it would have been close call.”

He also added, “There should be stricter law to punish people who harass women. They should be sent behind bars for 10-12 years so that it would deter people from committing such crime. I will ask government to change the law if it was possible.”
