- STAFF REPORTER

Shivaji Park police are inquiring into allegations levelled against a software professional for allegedly abusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday night. A BJP leader alleged that Dinesh Chanchalani, a software engineer, and his friends had insulted the Prime Minister at Shivaji Park playground.

According to the police, the incident took on Friday night at 8.30 p.m. Chanchalani had posted on Facebook that he and 20 others were playing football at Shivaji Park, when the BJP leader walked into the park. As per the Facebook post, the football accidently hit the BJP leader. However, Chanchalani and his friends immediately apologised to the leader.

According to Chanchlani, “When I pointed out to the leader that he could have walked from outside the play area, I was threatened by him that he would get me into trouble. After twenty minutes, policemen were summoned to Shivaji Park. “

“They were sent at the behest of the BJP leader who asked them to arrest us. The leader alleged in front of the police that I had abused the Prime Minister, “read the Facebook post by Chanchalani.

Chanchalani was detained at the Shivaji Park police station for almost one-and-a-half hours on Friday night. “Those one-and-a-half hours were a saga of absolute ‘dadagiri’ and a peek into how our police machinery functions. This man kept ordering the policemen to do things, he kept yelling and raising his voice while the Shivaji Park police were meekly listening to him,” said Chanchalani.

However, Chanchalani later updated the post on Saturday afternoon stating that an official from the BJP party had contacted him to extend support and that he was thankful to the party.

According to Paramjit Singh Dahiya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5), “We are conducting an inquiry. We are verifying the allegations made by Dinesh Chanchalani on Facebook.”
