A senior citizen was attacked at Dharavi over a suspected personal enmity on Sunday morning.

Haji Mushtaqi (61), a garment trader, was attacked at Dharavi T junction by an unknown person. Mustaki was walking and was on his way to Chambda maidan when the incident took place at 10.15 am.

According to Mushtaqi’s statement to the police, the unknown accused was standing and staring at him from a distance. Suddenly, the accused approached Mushtaqi and brought out a country-made pistol to attack him. For some reason, the trigger of the pistol malfunctioned and the accused was unable to fire.

Mushtaqi got in a fight with the accused and kicked him from behind to run away. The accused hit Mushtaqi with the butt of the revolver behind his neck.

Mushtaqi, who was bleeding profusely, was rushed to Lokmanya Tilak hospital at Sion. He is undergoing treatment there. His condition is stable.

Paramjit Singh Dahiya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5), said, “We have recorded Mushtaqi’s statement. He claims that he does not have any enmity with anyone. No incident of firing has been reported. We are suspecting that the motive behind the attack is rivalry and personal enmity. The matter is being investigated.”

Dharavi police registered a First Information Report and booked the unknown accused for attempt to murder under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code.
