Modi’s magic

Modi is making waves in Lucknow and Bhubaneswar and trying to reach the masses in his own way. The time is too good for him to implement policies in the interest of the masses. His outreach towards the Muslim population by taking triple talaq in his present agenda and in the bargain making it public that justice should be given to all women is worth applause. Delivering the concluding speech at the BJP's two-day national executive meeting, the PM called for taking a long jump towards building a new India by 2022 and insisted on socio-economic transformation dominating the national discourse. He is trying to make people aware of their responsibilities in the best way possible. More power to him! — C Ramani

Free WiFi at crematorium

Free WiFi at a crematorium in Anna Nagar, Chennai, is a brilliant idea which will help to live stream the last rites being performed at the crematorium, to loved ones living abroad, who are unable to attend. New technological advancements and gadgets are helping people from all walks of life—from bringing new lives into the world, to giving a send-off to the departed. May the old technology rest in peace.

Spare a thought

Hindus worship the cow because it is Lord Krishna's favourite animal. But why don't they worship the fish when it’s an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and the rat when it is Lord Ganesha's mount? They are against the killing of cows. But why aren't they against the killing of rats and eating of fish? I owe an explanation from them because these gau rakshaks in India are only saving cows from being eaten but not fish and rats from being killed. The government of India is only worried about saving cows from being killed and eaten and not bothered about women being raped and killed. — Jubel D'Cruz

Eye-opening dharna

Kudos to Supreme Court for putting the Tamil Nadu state government in a spot by expressing their shock on the farmers' suicide cases and why the state government was silent on it. It is unfortunate that despite the

dharna by TN farmers at Jantar Mandir in New Delhi, except the photo shoot by some of the political leaders, no tangible solution / action has been taken by any of the political parties in our country. Ironically, even the Central Government has ignored the protest by farmers in New Delhi. Hope the Supreme Court notice would open the eyes of not only those in the State Government, but also those at the Centre, to put an end to the ordeals of farmers all over the country. — N Mahadevan

Revise BEST’s ‘cool’ route

Mumbai is simmering hot at this time of the year and it is sad that BEST has withdrawn all AC buses off roads due to mounting losses on their operations. BEST AC buses were very comfortable with excellent cooling but was not popular with commuters because of the time it took on long routes due to road congestion and traffic woes in the city where roads are dug up for one reason or the other. Also, people prefer share ac ola/uber cabs to buses for point to point drop facilities. BEST should reintroduce AC buses with a revised plan and proper marketing so that commuters can avail the facility of travelling in air-conditioned comfort. AC bus services should be introduced on short routes with optimum pricing of fare so that more people use them instead of cars which would indirectly reduce traffic congestion as well. The starting point of AC buses should be local railway stations and business centres to local stations so that they are optimally utilised all throughout the day. Innovation is the need of the hour. The services could become profitable for BEST if routes are properly chalked out with commuter interest kept at the forefront. —S N Kabra

Pak’s tricks must end

Pakistan military is trying all tricks to upset peace in the sub-continent by creating trouble in Jammu and Kashmir. By claiming arrest of three Indian intelligent agents in POK, they are trying to spread wild rumours after the pronouncement of death sentence to Kulbhushan Jadhav. Pakistan government is in a precarious position and by trying to create trouble in India, the military regime is trying to buy peace in their own country.
