Payyade, Parsee into semis

Defending champions Payyade Sports Club and Parsee Gymkhana fashioned comfortabl­e wins to enter the semi-finals, in the 68th Salar Jung Community Invitation T20 Cricket Tournament.

Payyade will take on Souvenir Sports Club, while Parsee Gymkhana will play Islam Gymkhana in the semi-finals.

Runners-up in the Prabhodan tournament last week, a formidable Payyade restricted Sind Sports Club to a paltry 97 as left arm medium pacer Royston Dias and left arm spinner Vishal Dabholkar snared three wickets apiece in economic spells. Payyade raced to the winning target without loss in just 7.4 overs with openers Akhil Herwadkar smashing a quickfire 54 with nine boundaries and two sixes and Eknath Kerkar scoring 41with three boundaries and an equal number of sixes.

Put in to bat by Worli Sports Club, Parsee Gymkhana scored 187 for seven in 20 overs as Aakarshit Gomel hit 71 runs that included four boundaries and an equal number of sixes. Worli SC were skittled out in 16.5 overs as Abhimanyu Vashishtha claimed four for 16 and Saddam Mulani took two for 23.

Brief Scores: Quarter-finals: Sind SC 97 all out in 16 (Bhavesh Patel 20*, Kushal Shah 19; Royston Dias 3/20; Vishal Dabholkar 3/13) lost to Payyade SC 98 for no loss in 7.4 overs (Akhil Herwadkar 54*, Eknath Kerkar 41*) by 10 wkts.

Parsee Gym 187/7 in 20 (Aakarshit Gomel 71, Arjun Shetty 39; Harshad Tervankar 3/29, Viraj Gamre 2/34, Dhaval Patel 2/32) bt Worli SC 127 all out in 16.5 (Nikhil Jadhav 61; Abhimanyu Vashishtha 4/16, Saddam Mulani 2/23) by 60 runs.
