Flyovers, elevated roads to decongest city

For Mumbaikars who are fed up with traffic snarls, here’s some good news! The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to build four flyovers and two elevated roads. These infrastructure projects will help in decongesting areas such as Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Santa Cruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) and Chheda Nagar at Chembur.

The BKC to Bandra-Worli Sea Link flyover and another one from Dharavi junction to the Sea Link will be constructed by Simplex Contractor. A senior MMRDA official working on the project said, “The flyover will consist of two lanes. The aim is help commuters reach the sea link faster. Currently, there’s excessive congestion between BKC and Bandra-Worli Sea Link”.

A three-lane flyover will come up from Sion to Thane running parallel to the existing flyover. Another two-lane flyover will be constructed above the existing Chheda Nagar flyover at Chembur to ease traffic between Navi Mumbai and Thane. The existing Chheda Nagar flyover will be connected by a twolane elevated road to Amar Mahal Junction flyover.

The Santa Cruz-Chembur Link Road will have an elevated road from Kurla to Vakola joining Western Express Highway (WEH). “This will help reduce the east-west traffic as commuters can use the elevated road to reach the WEH,” a senior official said.
