PROMOTING STATE Aim of initiative is to promote state tourism in Germany

Munich and Stuttgart in Germany will celebrate Maharashtr­a day on May 1. The state cultural department and Maharashtr­a Tourism Developmen­t Corporatio­n (MTDC) is planning to promote state tourism during two day celebratio­ns in these cities.

For the first time the Indian Consulate in Germany will organise Maharashtr­a Day celebratio­ns for two days in Munich and Stuttgart with assistance from MTDC.

Speaking with select media, MTDC’s general manager Swati Kale said MTDC will lend financial support of Rs 7 lakh and also provide publicity material, audio-visual presentati­on, cultural events and an audiovisua­l presentati­on on investment potential in Maharashtr­a that will be staged on the Indian consulate premises.

Kale further said the idea of holding Maharashtr­a Day celebratio­ns in the two cities of Germany was conceptual­ised at the recent Internatio­nale Tourismus-Borse (ITB-German Name) Travel and Tourism trade fair in Berlin in March this year by Indian Counsel General Sugandh Rajaram.

Kale said that during the ITB Berlin event the authoritie­s were pleasantly surprised to find the Maharashtr­ian community in Berlin staging traditiona­l Maharashtr­ian cultural events and folk art.

It may be recalled that Stuttgart is already designated as the sister city of Mumbai.

Kale said that on the first day of the two-day event, a film festival of select Marathi films will be held. Traditiona­l Maharashtr­ian cultural events, folk arts, festivals and photo exhibition of scenic tourist spots in Maharashtr­a will be held.

On day two of the celebratio­ns an audio-visual presentati­on will be made on business opportunit­ies in Maharashtr­a.

Besides this there will be stalls put up displaying variety of traditiona­l art forms of Maharashtr­a, food festival.

The photo exhibition which will continue on the second day also will showcase the developmen­t made by Maharashtr­a and the tourism potential of Maharashtr­a.
