Three dead in Mumbai-Pune Expressway car accident

In yet another tragic accident on Pune-Mumbai Expressway, three including one nine-year-old girl lost their lives on Wednesday.

Deceased are identified as Ruksana Shahabuddi­n Shaikh (30), Laljima Moiuddin Mujawar (55) and Aliyana Shahabuddi­n Shaikh (9).

PN Agawane, Police Sub Inspector, Highway Police, said, “We got a call at 5.30 am on Wednesday that an accident took place near Bhatan tunnel. Two women were killed on the spot and five more were injured. We immediatel­y rushed them to MGM Hospital in Navi Mumbai. A nine-year-old girl died during treatment in the hospital.”

SM Madale, Police Sub Inspector, Rasayani police station in Raigad, said, “The driver of the car Javed Younis Shaikh in a complaint said that he was taking six people to Mumbai from Pune via Expresked behind their car at Bhatan tunnel. He lost control over wheels in efforts to turn the vehicle and rammed into a tree along the road. Car got crushed completely and two died on the spot. One more died during the treatment.”

Traffic Jam on near Amrutanjan Bridge In another incident, a container turned over on the expressway causing traffic jam near Amrutanjan Bridge. At around 8 am on Wednesday, a container turned over under Amrutanjan Bridge near Lonavala blocking lane for heavy vehicles causing traffic jam for one to two hours. Vehicles were lined up till 2-3 kms on the Pune-Mumbai way.
