Don Bosco ‘A’ and St. Anthony’s, Chembur registered contrasting victories to bag the under-16 boys’ and girls’ titles, while Divine Child emerged girls under-13 champions, in the Don Bosco Platinum Jubilee Inter-School Basketball tournament.

Led by ‘most valuable player’ and find of the competition Danica Pereira, Divine Child outclassed Bombay Scottish 43-12 after leading by substantial margins in all four quarters. Pereira scored 11 points and co-star Verushka Fernandes added 10 in a fluent win.

Leading by a slender 18-12 margin at half-time against Shishuvan in the boys under16 final, Don Bosco kept the scoreboard ticking to take the match away in the third quarter that yielded 23 points with ‘most valuable player’ Sakshay Pradhan and ‘most promising player’ Sankalp Panda on the rampage.

St. Anthony’s endured a stunning challenge from Mary Immaculate Girls High School, Borivali to snatch 2725 extra-time victory in a gripping girls’ under-16 final. The teams were 10-all at half-time, 17-17 at the end of the third quarter and 21-21 at the end of regulation time when Mary Immaculate’s Sonia Panchal scored five seconds from the end to force the contest into extra time. St. Anthony’s ‘most valuable player’ Suzanne Pinto, who led from the front, put the team ahead in extra time before Panchal drew level. Rhea Thomas gave Anthony’s a 25-23 advantage but this time Tanisha Malvankar equalized 25 seconds from close. Unmarked Joanne Rodrigues seized the opportunity and broke the deadlock as St. Anthony’s held on grimly for 10 seconds to terminate the suspense in a thrilling finish.
