Corporators fight to take credit for new road

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is constructing a new Development Plan (DP) road to decongest traffic on Akurli Road. The new road will help Lokhandwala residents to avoid the menace of heavy traffic. However, local representatives of Congress and BJP are busy fighting to take credit for the work taken up by BMC.

Ajanta Yadav, former corporator of ward number 25 of Congress, said, “Due to delimitation, the ward has changed. It has become ward number 26. Surprisingly the new corporator of the BJP, Pritam Pandgale, is trying to take credit for my efforts. On Friday, Pritam along with her husband forced an officer of BMC to allow them to sit in the meeting which was called by me; it’s absolutely wrong! The Bhooomipujan of the new road work was done by me, work orders I secured prior elections. Today I am not the corporator of the ward so what? I have the right to find a solution for the new hurdle which has come.”

“The new DP road has a nalluh, on which a bridge will be constructed. Because of this, pipelines of Mahindra & Mahindra company are to be shifted. The meeting was called to provide an alternate to the Mahindra & Mahindra company,” Yadav added.

On the other hand, Pritam Pandagale, newly elected corporator of ward number 26, under whom the new DP road work falls, said, “The former corporator is calling a meeting on behalf of her husband Rajpath Yadav, who is the corporator of ward number 28. The new DP road comes under ward number 26 and it does not fall under ward number 28. How a corporator of ward number 28 can call a meeting for these works? Also, it’s not because of former Congress corporator, the road is being constructed by BMC.”
