Loan waiver: Opposition seeks special session

-

Adding more pressure on the government, the ppposition parties Congress and National Congress Committee (NCP) have demanded that the government should call a special session to discuss and take a decision on farmers' loan waiver issue.

A delegation of opposition members in this regard will meet the Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao on Tuesday and will request him to instruct the government to call for a special session.

According to an official from the executive of state legislature, since a special session is being held on May 21 to ratify the State Goods and Service Tax (SGST) Bill, it seems impossible that another another special session can be called on the same day.

Radhakrishna VikhePatil, the leader of opposition in state Assembly said, “The last four consecutive years have been the worst for our farmers. The farmers from Maharashtra have lost large number of crops due to unseasoned rain, natural disaster and not getting price to the produce. They don’t have option other than committing suicide.”

The opposition said that It is a perfect time to support farmers and the State stand by them. The opposition feels Devendra Fadnavis-led BJP-Shiv Sena alliance government is ignoring the

farmers issues. “If the state wants to motivate the farmers and wants to raise the trust level, then the farmers must be freed from these loans. The banks and moneylenders are fleecing them

dry,” said Vikhe-Patil. He added, “A complete waiver of the loans is the only option for the govenrment.”

Opposition leaders will meet Governor on Tuesday at 11 am in the morning.
