Militants fire at two senior police officers in Shopian

SRINAGAR: The Militants tonight fired at a vehicle carrying two senior police officials in south Kashmir's Shopian district but no one was hurt. A Deputy Superinten­dent of Police and a Station House Officer (SHO) were travelling in the vehicle when it was targeted, a police official said. He said the police officials were returning to Shopian town from Behibugh when the car was attacked by the militants who fled later. No one was hurt in the firing, the official said.

Complaint accuses Abdullah of making ‘seditious’ remarks

SRINAGAR: A complaint has been filed seeking action against NC leader Farooq Abdullah for his alleged seditious remarks. The complaint was filed by activist Sukesh C Khajuria to District Magistrate, Jammu, seeking action for alleged sedition under Ranbir Panel Code against Abdullah for “supporting separatist­s” during his speeches in Kashmir.

Students clash with security forces in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: Normal life came to a halt in Srinagar on Tuesday when clashes erupted between students and the security forces, police said. Students from Women College and the adjoining S.P. Higher Secondary School bunked classes, came out on Maulana Azad Road and pelted stones at the police and CRPF. Police used batons and tear smoke shells to disperse them. Kashmir has been witnessing student unrest since April 15 when security forces entered a college in south Kashmir's Pulwama district and roughed up students inside the campus.

AIIMS advocates including Lupus in govt list of NCDs

NEW DeLHI The All India Institute of Medical Sciences on Tuesday demanded that Lupus, an autoimmune disease, be included in the health ministry's list of non-communicab­le diseases (NCDs), so that the government's focus on it gets intensifie­d and the treatment becomes costeffect­ive.
