The Consumer Guidance Society of India (CGSI), a Non-Profitable Organisation (NGO) based in Mumbai, has registered and resolved around 25,000 complaints from aggrieved consumers across categories in Maharashtra during financial year 2016-17.

The NGO claims it takes up each complaint minutely.

The complaints registered by the aggrieved consumers are rising in the categories of e-commerce, domestic appliances and telecom sectors.

“Complaints are pouring in these three sectors, viz e-commerce, domestic appliances and telecom. The e-commerce complaints have sizably increased this financial year. We approach the companies when the consumer gives up after trying all possible ways,” said Dr MS Kamath, secretary of CGSI.

Of all grievances recorded by the NGO, issues with manufacturers of electronic products like refrigerator, television, air conditioner, mixer and juicer amount to 24.8% and those related to e-commerce portals (which sell the products online) form 23.47%. Issues with phone sets in the telecom sector contribute about 17.8% of the complaints of a total 25,000.

The complaints related to banking and real estate sectors have been on par with 7.67% and 7.56% respectively. Other complaints are from sectors like insurance, finance, PDS and food & safety.
