Tejas Express train starts operations today
The luxurious air-conditioned Tejas Express train is all set to make its maiden journey on Monday.
The train has the capacity to run at 200 km an hour and passengers will be able to reach Goa in nine hours from Mumbai city.
The train will leave Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) at 3.25pm on Monday and reach Karmali in Goa post-midnight. The train will halt at Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Ratnagiri and Kudal stations.
The train reached CST on Sunday to begin its maiden journey on Monday. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will flag off the train.
The luxurious train has facilities like on-board infotainment (displaying movies and video songs), Wi-Fi, Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV), fire and smoke detection facilities.
Senior central railway officials inspected the train on Sunday. The train is scheduled for five days a week during non-monsoon period and three days a week during monsoon. “The train is fully air-conditioned and has one executive coach along with 12 chair coaches,” said a senior central railway official.
Passengers will be provided with packaged drinking water and newspapers irrespective of their option for onboard meals. Onboard catering services charges is included in the ticket fare.
The ticket fare for Tejas Express is 10-20 % higher than Jan Shatabdi Express train which also runs on the similar route.
The window panes of one of the coaches of the Tejas Express was damaged during its journey from Delhi to Mumbai.
On Sunday, the central
railway officials have promised to make sure that such incidents are not repeated.
