Mumbai, Rajasthan cops work together to nail kidnapper
In a joint operation, the Mumbai Crime Branch and Rajasthan police have successfully tracked down a 35year-old kidnapper from Bandra (West) in the wee hours of Monday.
Accused Sajid Baig abducted an 11-year-old boy from Fatehpur town of Rajasthan’s Sikar district and had brought him to Mumbai early last week. The victim, student of class 7, is the son of a high-profile businessman of Fatehpur.
The Mumbai police spokesperson and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Dr Rashmi Karandikar confirmed the incident had taken place.
Last week Baig made a ransom call to the boy’s businessman father and demanded Rs 1 crore. The boy’s father, who had already registered a missing complaint at local police station in Fatehpur, informed the investigators.
The investigators suggested the businessman to negotiate the ransom so that his call can be traced easily. The deal was finally done on Rs 70 lakh.
Through mobile tower location, local investigators got to know that the kidnapper is based in Mumbai’s Bandra (West). The Rajasthan police immediately contacted its Mumbai counterpart and the Crime Branch Unit 9 was directed to assist the officials in tracing the kidnapper.
The kidnapper had kept the boy in a house located in Baza Road, Bandra (West). Last week, the local informer had tipped off officers of Crime Branch Unit 9 that commotion of minor boy is regularly heard from a house located on Baza Road.
