Heart at right side, 6-year-old boy survives complex surgery
A six-year-old boy, who was suffering from the complex heart defect wherein all the heart chambers and arteries were interchanged, survived a critical surgery.
Sanket More underwent cardiac paediatric surgery on May 19 at the Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre, Girgaum.
Dr. Shreepal Jain, the senior paediatric surgeon said that there was a large hole in the heart and the artery to the lungs was narrow. His heart was located on the right side of the chest. “There was extremely poor supply of blood to lungs, the coronary arterial courses were too jammed for an area where the heart and lungs connect with the interposition passage,” said Dr Jain.
Dr Shivaprakash Krishnanaik, senior cardiologist surgeon said, "After considering various options, a team of paediatric and heart specialists decided to perform a heart repair surgery on the child on May 19. We were also ready with Plan B if Plan A fails” he added.
Dwarka More, Sanket’s mother said that he had a breathing problem and his body colour use to turn blue. “He use to get chest pain constantly and was loosing weight,” added Dwarka.
Dr. Krishnanaik further stated that ventilator was removed very next day after the surgery. “The child is been constantly monitored by the doctors and he has been kept in the ICU,” he said.
