Bollywood stars have come out strongly against cutting of trees for the sake of development.

At an event on Tuesday evening, actors Arjun Rampal, Pooja Batra, Arshad Warsi, Sunny Leone, singer Shaan and ace celebrity designer Manish Malhotra have hit out against the government who proposed to cut down over 1000 trees in Aarey Colony for the Metro construction.

Hitting out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, actor Arjun Rampal said that the Metro is not the need of the people and cutting the trees is not the only option. “I do not think there should be any Metro in Aarey Colony, I am totally against it. If you visit any developed city like New York, Paris, Chicago or anywhere else you can see that their cities are build around parks so that they become the lungs of the city. There is no point in having infrastructure if the air we breathe is unhealthy,” Rampal said.

Supporting Rampal 's stance actress Pooja Batra said, “I totally agree with the opinion of Arjun. The government should decide now what they want people or oxygen left in Mumbai?”

While popular singer Shaan wants the government should come up with the some better alternative for cutting trees. “The government should look after the area where actually there is need of Metro because bringing Metro in Aarey is pointless. Government should come with a proper balanced idea,” said Shaan.

Majeed Memon, National Congress Party leader also supported the opinions of Bollywood stars. “Any government that takes a decision that is hazardous to the environment must be objected to,” said Memon.
