Victim goes missing, has alleged accused’s father is trying influence case by misusing power

The victim and the accused became friends on Facebook over two years ago. They exchanged numbers and began chatting over various platforms. Gradually they started dating each other and finally decided to marry. However, the girl learnt he was already seeing another girl at the same time and she snapped relationship with the accused

The 22-year-old cyber harassment victim has threatened to commit suicide on Tuesday after her nude picture was uploaded on social networking site Facebook. The girl has gone missing and the police have traced her mobile to a location in Pune.

The victim informed Free Press Journal late on Tuesday night and added that the accused (30-year-old man whose name is withheld) is known to her. She has alleged that the Bhandup police as well as the Cyber Cell at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) are not arresting the accused as he is the son of a senior office of Mumbai police.

“Ab mein zinda nhi rehna chahti hu bus (I don’t want to live anymore),” the victim messaged Free Press Journal reporter who informed the zonal Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sachin Patil. The police assured necessary action.

A police team was sent to her house at night and found everything was normal.

“The victim was supposed to visit the Bhandup police station on Wednesday but she did not show up. Her father told us that she has taken his handset and has left the residence. Her SIM card is with her,” said DCP Patil.

The victim alleged that the father of the accused is using his office to dilute the case. “It is now evident who the real culprit is, as new intimate photos have been uploaded on Facebook. These were with him (accused) only,” said the victim.

The police have recorded the statement of five people including friends and relatives of the victim. DCP Patil said the statement of the accused has also been recorded in the matter.

Bhandup police was forced to register the First Information Report (FIR) on April 18, after the Free Press Journal published a story with the headline ‘Police officer’s son creates fake FB accounts of a girl’ but the case was registered against ‘unknown’ person.

The then senior inspector of Bhandup police station, Sripat Kale, had said that further necessary action in the case will be taken after receiving response from the Facebook.

“The response from Facebook is still awaited,” said DCP Patil.
