2 students among India’s best

- SWAPNIL MISHRA

ICSE and ISC results were declared on Monday, and two Mumbai students have done the city proud.

In the ICSE merit list, Farzan Bharucha from Greenlawns High School on Warden Road came first in the city, with a total 496 of 500. His percentage in English and four other subjects is 99.2 percentage.

Bharucha scored a perfect 100 in mathematics and technical drawing and he still cannot believe that he has really scored 99.2%. “I am speechless. I do not want to prove anything to anyone. My aim was just to score good marks and nothing else.” Bharucha admitted languages were tough for him, but managed to cope with the help of tuitions. “Hindi subject was very difficult for me but with the help of a private tutor I scored good marks,” said Bharucha.

Rishika Dhariwal from Jamnabai Narsee School in Vile Parle stood second in all-India ISC merit list scoring 99.25%. She shared the rank with three other students. She believes in “positive competition” among friends and that’s what made her achieve the astounding score.

“I did not expect this at all. I feel joyous but the happiness has not sunk in yet completely. The most important thing during study was that I focused while preparing and never overburden myself. I used to take sufficient breaks and maintained a balance between studies and hobbies,” said Dhariwal.

In Maharashtra, more students passed in both the Class 10 and Class 12 exams compared to last year. Of 17,064 students who took the ICSE exam, 99.81% passed; of the 2,318 students who wrote the ISC exams, 98.71% were successful.
