With a view to increase the number of tourists from Mumbai, Arunachal Pradesh is aiming to improve connectivity to the state. Tourism secretary of Arunachal Pradesh PD Sona on Wednesday said Mumbai is a potential market for tourism.

The tourism department focused on the major attractions of Arunachal Pradesh like mountains, rivers, lakes, rainforests, farmlands, vegetation, landscapes and adventure sports.

Sona said, “We have a large number of visitors from Gujarat. But we want to increase the number of people coming from Maharashtra and especially Mumbai. People from Mumbai are interested in travel, so we want to focus on this area.”

Considering Mumbai is the economic hub of India, Sona said the people of Mumbai need a getaway from their routine daily lives dominated by technology. Sona stated, “Our major focus to invite more people to Arunachal Pradesh is to give them an opportunity to be one with nature. People in Mumbai lead a fast life and advanced technology is a huge part of their life. We want the people to take some time out of their daily schedules and explore nature.”

Apart from the environment, local ways of living, food, culture, traditions and folk art are quite dominant in Arunachal Pradesh. Adventure sports like river rafting, mountain climbing, trekking, paragliding and music festivals like Ziro Music Festival, Orange Music and Culture Festival, Speed Festival and other cultural festivals are prevalent.

The tourism department is also focusing on improving the connectivity to Arunachal Pradesh. “A number of airports are being constructed in Andhra Pradesh so that people coming from Mumbai can travel by flight,” Sona added.
