Man held for raping disabled daughter

A 34-year-old man has been arrested by Oshiwara Police for raping his minor daughter who is said to be mentally challenged.

The zonal Deputy Commission­er of Police (DCP) confirmed the incident and said the father has been arrested on May 31 and booked under rape and various sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) Act.

The girl is mentally challenged and she had gone missing from her house in mid-May, Oshiwara Police station officers said.

“Her father had registered a missing person’s complaint at our police station. Our team successful­ly recovered the girl and she is now admitted to a hospital, where she is recuperati­ng at present,” an officer at the station said.

At the time of recording her statement in the hospital, the girl alleged that she was raped by her father.

“On the basis of the girl’s statement, we have registered a First Informatio­n Report (FIR) on May 31 and arrested her father,” the officer added.

The accused was produced before a court which remanded him in police custody till June 6.

At present, the Oshiwara Police is checking out the veracity of allegation­s made by the girl and interrogat­ion of the accused is on.

The accused, who resides in a chawl at Jogeshwari (West) along with his family, works in a private firm located close to his house.
