MHADA officials seal police inspector’s Chembur flat

- STAFF REPORTER

After a year-long court battle, Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority (MHADA) officials on Tuesday sealed a flat in Tilak Nagar at Chembur that was owned by Police Inspector Anil Jaitapkar. According to officials, Jaitapkar had submitted fake documents to acquire the flat under government quota.

The 1100 sq ft apartment acquired by Jaitapkar was on the fifth floor in Mahalaxmi Cooperative Housing Society, for which he had submitted fake documents to qualify for the quota.

After scrutinising his documents, the officials had issued a notice stating his expulsion. Three attempts to seal the flats had failed. Msoreover, Jaitapkar had approached Bombay High Court to stay his expulsion. The court turned down his appeal making things easier for MHADA officials to seal the apartment. Last year, the court directed MHADA officials to go ahead and seal the apartment.

A senior MHADA official told FPJ, “The action was taken as per the high court’s directions. Also, the orders to seal the apartment was given by Subhash Lakhe. The police official had fraudulently acquired another flat in Mulund. We are currently scrutinising all of his property documents.” The official said further action will be taken soon.

The official said, “Jaitapkar acquired a second apartment under the Chief Minister’s housing quota. Further action on his other properties is still uncertain.”

Meanwhile, Milind Mhaiskar, former principal secretary to CM, on Tuesday was appointed as the Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of MHADA. He said the decision on MHADA Lottery 2017 that was delayed will be taken soon.
