Admission process faces online error, 1st merit list out for degree colleges

- RONALD RODRIGUES

Students and parents faced immense difficulties yet again when completing the FYJC (First Year Junior College) admissions process as they found the website was working slow on Thursday.

This took place despite the state education department saying the site was under maintenance the entire day.

The website took time to load and was slow to proceed which led to students and parents crowding outside few colleges.

Some of the parents complained to the office of the deputy director of education about the slow bandwidth of the server. Students also faced an error in filling their second form which includes the process of filling in the college preferences. While, Vinod Tawde, state minister for school and higher education, had said that the students who have filled the second form would not have to fill it again once the site is resumed.

The state education department may extend the admission dates depending on the performance of the online portal. Shubham Hule, a student, said, “We have to apply in two parts where in the first form we have to fill our personal details and in the second form we have to give the preference of 1 to 10 colleges. The site crashed due to overload of students applying for admissions.”

On Wednesday, too, a large number of students tried to register online but the site was shut due to maintenance.

The applications submitted earlier could not be found later.

“The site showed us that the data was lost though we had filled the first form. We have to fill our details again now,” a student added. Around 30,000 students are yet to register for online admissions due to the errors in the online system.

On the other hand, the degree college admissions faced a new turn as the first merit list for the colleges was declared on Thursday. The cut-off percentages of top colleges witnessed an increase of 1-2% as compared to last year.

Students whose names have appeared in the first merit list have to visit the respective college to submit all necessary documents and pay the fees for the particular course till June 28.

The hike in percentage was witnessed as the students from all the boards have scored high marks this year. Tushar Desai, Principal of Ruparel College, said, “The cut off has increased by certain marks this year which has increased the percentage both for the aided courses and self-financing programmes.”
